Why are we still building rigs with solid front axles for rock crawling?
Three years ago at Moab I watched a guy in a $60k Jeep on solid axles get stuck on a simple ledge, while a buddy's IFS truck walked right over it. My own 1990 Toyota pickup on leaf springs has flexed out fine for years, but last month I swapped to coilovers and now I wonder if the old design is mostly hype. Are we sticking with solid axles for tradition and durability, or is IFS actually better for modern offroad use?

Read an article saying IFS is actually better for traction now with modern geometry setups.

Wait, hold on - you're telling me IFS is actually better now? Like, for real? I mean, I remember when people said it was trash for traction compared to solid axles, and now it's supposedly the good guy? That's wild considering how much money and time went into perfecting solid axle setups for off-roading. Traction is kind of a big deal, you know? I guess the geometry has gotten so fancy that it can flex better than the old stuff, which is pretty impressive if it's true.
