Had to choose between a vintage reel mower and a gas powered one for my lawn
Last summer I got tired of the noise from my gas mower and started looking into old school reel mowers. I found a 1950s model at a flea market for $20 and a newer gas one on sale for $150. I picked the reel mower because I liked the idea of quiet mornings and zero fumes. First few cuts were rough since the grass was too tall and it kept clogging up. After about 6 weeks of keeping the lawn shorter, it actually cuts cleaner than the gas one ever did. Has anyone else tried switching to manual tools and stuck with it or went back to power?

Oh man, did I ever learn this the hard way? My first time with a reel mower I figured I'd just chop down knee-high weeds like some kinda pioneer and ended up spending an hour unclogging grass clumps while my neighbor watched over the fence drinking coffee. Took me like three weeks to realize you gotta mow twice a week or it's a total disaster. Now I'm that weirdo who actually enjoys mowing the lawn, plus I can hear the birds instead of a lawnmower engine drowning everything out.

The neighbor watching over coffee is a vibe though.
