Watched a guy at a 24 hour diner in Portland fold his napkin into a perfect crane
I was at this all night spot called The Roxy around 2am last Tuesday, just zoning out with my coffee, when this older dude across the counter folded his napkin into an origami crane in like 30 seconds flat. He saw me watching and just shrugged and said "keeps my hands busy while I wait." I've been trying to teach myself origami since then, but my cranes always look like crumpled birds. Anyone else pick up a random skill from a late night encounter?

That sounds pointless when you could just ask for a to-go box.

Same kind of thing happened to me but with a different result. I was at a bar in Austin and this guy drew a perfect portrait of the bartender on a cocktail napkin in like 5 minutes. I asked him how long he'd been drawing and he said "since I was a kid, it's just practice." So I bought a sketchbook the next day and tried to draw my cat. It looked like a potato with ears. I still have that sketchbook somewhere.
