Hot take: that expensive lawn service I hired was a total waste of $200

I paid Premium Green Lawns $200 last month to treat my yard for weeds and grubs. They came out twice, sprayed some stuff, and left. My lawn looks exactly the same as before, maybe worse because there are now dead patches where the spray hit too heavy. I called them and they said it takes a few treatments, but I'm out the cash and my yard still looks rough. Anybody else have luck with a cheaper DIY approach for lawn care around here? I'm thinking of just renting a spreader from the hardware store next time.

Ugh, that's frustrating! I actually read a Reddit thread where a guy saved a ton just by using a simple weed and feed from Home Depot, like $15 a bag. Renting the spreader and doing it yourself is WAY more cost effective, those services are just spraying water half the time.

My neighbor actually paid like $400 for a full season treatment and I did the same yard with a $15 bag and the $10 spreader rental from Lowe's. Honestly I got way better results too because I could control exactly where the stuff went instead of those guys just blasting it everywhere. Plus I mean, doing it yourself takes like 20 minutes twice a year, it's not exactly backbreaking labor. Maybe it's just me but I feel like those companies bank on people thinking it's way harder than it actually is.
