Took me 6 months to find a real lightsaber hilt from the Disney lot sale

I've been hunting for a screen-used prop from the Star Wars sequel trilogy for almost two years now. The big problem was authentication - turned out over half the hilts listed online are just fan builds with fake COAs. I finally tracked down a griptech crew member on a Facebook group who pointed me to a small auction house in Burbank. Cost me $180 all told and another $40 for a letter from the prop master. Has anyone else run into trouble with fake movie weapons from that era?

Oh man, I totally get why you were skeptical at first. I used to roll my eyes at people hunting for screen-used stuff because I figured everything was fake or overpriced. But then a buddy dragged me to a small con and I saw a real ROTJ blaster with papers and it changed my whole view. It's wild how many fakes are out there though, especially for the sequel trilogy props since they're newer and everyone wants one. The fact that you went through a Facebook group and found a legit source is smart, most people just trust the first eBay listing they see. That prop master letter is huge too, that's the kind of paper trail that actually holds up if you ever want to sell it. I spent months chasing a Kylo Ren helmet and ended up with a recast before I learned my lesson.

Nah the sequels aren't that new anymore. Last one came out six years ago. But yeah you're right about the paper trail being key. That prop master letter is worth more than the hilt itself sometimes.
