I spent 2 years bidding on replica props before I realized the mistake

So back in 2021 I started hunting for a screen-used lightsaber from the prequels. I kept bidding on these auction sites and losing every time to the same three guys. I figured my max bid was just too low, so I started going higher, even $1,200 for an Obi-Wan hilt that felt off. Last month I finally won one and brought it to a prop authentication event in Nashville. The guy there took one look and laughed, told me the emitter was machined wrong and the weathering pattern didn't match any known hero prop. Turns out all those auctions I lost were legit, but the ones I won were fan-made copies that the seller listed as 'stunt versions' without any paperwork. I never thought to check the seller's feedback or ask for the original studio lot number before bidding. Now I'm stuck with this pretty but worthless hunk of metal. Has anyone else gotten burned by vague listings that sound too good to pass up?
