Got burned by a fake 'screen-used' blaster from Aliens

I dropped $450 three weeks ago on what the seller claimed was a real hero prop pulse rifle from Aliens. Turned out it was a high-end resin recast with a cheap toy stock glued on. I spotted the weird paint chipping and mismatched screws after comparing it to screen caps from the movie. The guy ghosted me when I asked for a refund and his Etsy shop vanished overnight. Has anyone else dealt with sellers faking the wear and tear on movie props?

...and honestly I see people dropping that kind of money on these things all the time without doing basic homework first. I get being excited about a cool prop but if you're paying $450 for something that's supposedly from a 40 year old movie you better be ready to stare at every screw and scuff mark for an hour before handing over your cash. Sellers like that guy are scum no doubt, but they count on people wanting to believe so bad they skip the obvious red flags. Did you file a chargeback with your bank or credit card, or did you already miss that window too?

Read an article just last week about this exact scam. Said these fake props are flooding the market now because the real ones are so rare. The guy selling it probably bought a mold online for $20 and painted it in his garage. Banks are getting smart about this stuff though, most will let you dispute a charge up to 120 days now.
