Walmart couch vs. estate sale couch which side are you on?

Stopped by the Salvation Army in Phoenix last weekend and saw a burnt orange velvet couch from the 70s next to a beat up IKEA model. One had solid wood legs and real springs, the other was basically cardboard and staples. Are we better off hunting for old solid stuff or just grabbing something new that fits in our car? What do you guys lean toward when your budget is under $100?

Burnt orange velvet couch from the 70s" sounds amazing, lmao. Old stuff is built way better and has way more personality, just make sure it doesn't smell like cat pee. Estate sale or thrift store all the way.

I saw a YouTube video a while back where a guy tore apart a 70s couch and a modern one side by side, and the old couch had actual hardwood and coil springs while the new one was basically particle board and foam. For under $100, I'd take the burnt orange velvet any day, just do a thorough sniff test and check for any bugs in the cushions or corners. Something that's been sitting in a Phoenix garage for decades might have some Arizona dust baked in, but a good vacuum and some Febreze can fix that.
