Just realized the time loop in Triangle makes no sense if you think about it too long

I was rewatching Triangle last night and the whole time loop thing started bugging me. So the ship sinks, she gets on the boat again, but isn't she already dead from the car crash at the start? The loop should have broken when she died in the water. My buddy tried to explain it as purgatory but that feels like a cop out. There are like 3 different versions of her on the ship at the same time, but the movie never explains how they stack. It's one of those plots where the twist is cool until you actually map out the timeline on paper. Has anyone else tried to draw a diagram of this film and just given up?

Actually the loop holds together better than most people give it credit for. The car crash isn't her real death - that's the start of the cycle, not the end. The movie shows she's already in purgatory the whole time because she's trapped in a punishment loop for killing her son. The three versions of her on the ship stack because the loop doesn't reset with one death. Every time one version dies another one appears from the sinking boat. Look at how the masked figure knocks her off the ship and she washes up on shore then gets back in her car for the crash again. That's the key - the crash leads to the boat, not the other way around.
