Tried to swap a light fixture in my hallway last Saturday
Three hours. That's how long it took me to swap out a basic ceiling light. The old one had been painted over about six times, so the screws were basically fused to the bracket. I spent the first hour just scraping paint off with a utility knife. Then I dropped a wire nut into the wall cavity and had to fish it out with a coat hanger. A 20 minute job turned into my whole afternoon. Has anyone else run into a simple home task that ate up way more time than it should have?

Hold up, I gotta push back on this. A simple light fixture swap taking three hours sounds like a planning issue, not a bad luck problem. You knew the fixture was painted over before you started, right? A quick scrape with a putty knife or even a few taps with a hammer could've knocked that paint loose in minutes. Dropping a wire nut is annoying, sure, but that's why you keep your workspace clear and have a spare on hand. I've swapped fixtures in 15 minutes flat by just checking for stuck parts first and laying out a drop cloth to catch screws. Isn't a little prep worth saving the rest of your Saturday?
