Rant: My old-school flyer campaign was a total flop

When I first started my own HVAC business, I figured marketing meant putting ads where people could see them. I dumped a good chunk of money into color flyers and dropped them off around town. This was years ago, when online stuff wasn't as big, so it made sense to me. I got maybe two calls total, and both were just price checks with no real work. I remember feeling pretty stupid watching all that paper go to waste. Now, it's crazy how you can aim ads at folks based on what they search for. Back then, I was just hoping someone kept my flyer for a rainy day. I guess the lesson is that spreading stuff thin doesn't beat hitting the right person at the right time.

Man, that's the worst part. You can have a Great idea that just hits Wrong. Feels like you're betting on EVERYTHING.

How do you even know when to push through versus when to cut your losses, @nathan_barnes? That feeling of betting on everything is so real. It's like every choice you make has to be perfect or it all falls apart. I've had ideas that seemed solid but just didn't connect with people. It makes you question your own judgment. Sometimes the timing or just luck plays a bigger part than we admit.
