Switched from store-bought cloth napkins to cut-up old t-shirts last spring and haven't looked back

I used to buy packs of those cheap cloth napkins from Target every few months because they'd get stained or frayed after a couple washes. Then about 8 months ago I was cleaning out my closet and had this stack of old concert tees that were too faded to wear but too sentimental to toss. I grabbed some scissors and cut them into rough 12x12 squares, didn't even hem the edges. Now I have like 30 of these rag napkins that I just toss in the laundry and they actually get softer with each wash. The best part is I haven't spent a dime on napkins since and they work way better for wiping up spills than the thin store ones ever did. Has anyone else done something similar with old clothes instead of buying the fancy versions?

Heard someone say old t-shirts make the best rags for glass too.

Oh man, @river190 you are so right about that! I've been using old cotton t-shirts for years now and they are hands down the best thing for windows and mirrors. The fabric is soft enough that it doesn't leave any lint behind, but it still grabs all the grime. I tried using paper towels once and regretted it immediately, all those little fuzzies stuck everywhere. So yeah, I'm with you on this one, old t-shirts are where it's at for glass cleaning.
