My neighbor told me to use dish soap to patch a hole in drywall and I should have known better

Old Bob from two doors down said just mix dish soap with spackle and it'll fill any crack. I tried it on a nail hole in my hallway and it bubbled up like foam, ended up having to scrape it all off. Three days later there's a weird yellow stain I have to prime over now. Anybody else get stuck following bad advice from a well meaning old timer?

Old Bob meant well but dish soap's for dishes, not drywall.
