The judge read every single one out loud in court and you could see the moment he realized his lawyer's advice about 'document everything' didn't mean sending angry messages to his ex's new husband from the bar at midnight, has anyone else seen someone torpedo their own case with digital evidence?

The part about "document everything" really got me because I read somewhere that a lot of people think that means screenshot every single argument and hold onto every nasty message. I heard about a case where a dad kept all these emails showing the mom being difficult about pick up times, but he also included his own replies where he called her every name in the book. The judge didn't care about her being late, she only focused on how mean his messages were. Digital evidence cuts both ways, it can save you or sink you in a big way. Did your neighbor ever try to delete the texts before they got to court?

What nobody talks about is how deleting texts can actually look WORSE than keeping them, judges HATE when evidence gets destroyed. My old neighbor tried wiping his phone clean but the phone company records still showed the deleted texts existed and the judge assumed the worst.
