Chose a local mediator over a lawyer for my lease dispute in Austin

I had to pick between a $350/hr lawyer and a $150 flat fee mediator for a deposit fight with my old landlord. Went with the mediator and got my $1,200 back in one session, no court involved. Has anyone else tried mediation for small claims stuff?

Nah, I gotta disagree with you a bit here. Mediation works great for simple stuff like a deposit fight, but it won't help you much if the landlord flat out lies or if there's a legit legal gray area in the lease. You lucked out with a reasonable landlord on the other side of the table, but that's not always the case.
