Had a moment last Sunday with a butter knife and a stuck jar lid that changed how I see all my kitchen tools
Three years ago in my tiny Chicago apartment, I spent twenty minutes wrestling a pickle jar before my neighbor knocked and showed me I could just tap the lid on the counter edge, and now I wonder how many other simple tricks I'm missing that everyone else already knows - any of you have a basic kitchen hack that made you feel like an idiot when you finally learned it?

Three years ago my roommate in Nashville taught me @the_gavin's exact trick with Tupperware lids, and I still feel dumb about all the claw marks I left on them before that.

Learned this one from my mom years ago and still think about it. When a plastic container lid is stuck tight, don't twist it harder. Flip it over and run the rim under hot tap water for about ten seconds. The heat expands the plastic just enough to break the seal without any struggle. Feels like magic every time but also makes you wonder why you ever fought with it before. The real trick is remembering to do it before you've already bruised your hands.
