A friend told me my stir-fry was 'soggy sadness' and they were right lol
I used to just dump all my random fridge stuff into a pan and call it a stir-fry. Last week a buddy came over and tried my chicken and veggie mess and said it tasted like soggy sadness haha. That stung a bit but they were totally right. So I looked up what I was doing wrong and realized I was overcrowding the pan and not getting it hot enough first. Now I cook the protein first, take it out, then do the veggies in small batches on high heat. Tried it with some leftover bell peppers, half an onion, and some sad broccoli and it actually came out crispy. Cost me nothing since it was all already in my fridge. Anyone else have a friend drop a harsh truth about your cooking lol?

One of my buddies got told his chili was "brown wall paint" by his brother and he got so mad he didn't talk to him for a week. Turns out the brother was right though, the stuff was basically just canned beans and tomato paste with zero seasoning. He ended up coming around and now his chili is actually pretty good, he just needed someone to be honest with him. Funny how those harsh truths can make you a better cook.

Had a similar thing happen with a buddy's BBQ sauce, it was basically just ketchup and brown sugar with a splash of vinegar. He was stubborn about it for months until he finally took some pointers and added cumin and smoked paprika. Now he brings that stuff to every cookout and people actually ask for the recipe.
