Unpopular opinion: that 20 minute screw search was worth every second
I was cleaning out a junk drawer Saturday and found a box of random screws from three different furniture builds. One of them fit the wobbly leg on my grandma's old end table, so I spent 20 minutes digging through the box just to test it. The table is rock solid now and I didn't have to buy a whole new pack. Has anyone else found that the time spent hunting in junk drawers actually saves money, or am I just stubborn about not making a hardware store run?

Man, I do that all the time and then realize I've just organized someone else's garbage...

Honestly, I gotta disagree with you there @park.adam. "Organized someone else's garbage" sounds harsh but half the time their "garbage" is just stuff they didn't take the time to sort or appreciate. Last week I dug through a friend's old photo boxes and found a vintage concert tee worth like 80 bucks on eBay just because I took the time to actually look at what he was tossing. Sometimes it's not organizing garbage, it's finding the hidden value in someone else's carelessness.
