That time a neighbor called my junk drawer a 'crime scene' and made me rethink everything
I used to just toss random stuff in my kitchen junk drawer without thinking. Batteries, old keys, takeout menus, a single earring I kept meaning to fix. Then my neighbor Martha came over to borrow scissors and opened it, and she just laughed and said it looked like a crime scene exploded in there. At first I was annoyed, but then I looked at it the next day and realized she was kind of right. So I got a little divider tray from the hardware store for like 4 bucks and sorted things into sections. Now I can actually find the screwdriver or the button I need without digging for 10 minutes. Has anyone else had a friend call out your drawer organization and make you actually fix it?

Oh man, your Martha sounds just like my neighbor Carol who once told me my garage looked like a "museum of unfinished projects" and honestly she wasn't wrong. I got one of those little bamboo organizers for like five bucks at Target and now I feel like a real grownup when I open my drawer instead of just hoping the thing I need magically appears. It's funny how a tiny piece of plastic or wood can make you feel like you've got your whole life together even when you definitely don't.

Read this thing in some design blog about "joy triggers" or whatever and honestly laughed at first but now I think they're onto something. That little bamboo guy in my sock drawer gives me a tiny dopamine hit every morning when I grab a pair without having to dig through a tangled mess. Got a similar one for my spice rack and suddenly I'm actually using turmeric instead of letting it sit there for years. It's like the cheaper and dumber the system is, the better it works for your brain.
