Our indie band's unexpected success with a micro-label

Many folks in the scene say true indie bands should never work with any label. We thought that too, but we were stuck playing empty rooms and getting no streams. After a year of trying solo, we reached out to a micro-label that believed in our sound. They handled distribution and promo while we kept full control over our music. For instance, they got our song on a popular indie playlist that doubled our monthly listeners. Now we're booking real shows and making art without compromise. Sometimes, going against the popular view can solve your biggest problems.

My cousin's band lost all control to a micro-label.

A friend's band was stuck playing to empty bars for like a year straight. They finally caved and signed with this super small label no one had heard of. That label just took care of putting their songs online and telling people about them. Next thing you know, their track ended up in a cool podcast and listeners actually tripled. They kept all their creative control but suddenly had real fans showing up to gigs. Makes you wonder if the whole "no labels ever" thing is just pride talking.

Yeah, that "no labels ever" rule sounds like stubborn pride.
