Letting my teen son manage his own laundry backfired big time.
If you're thinking of letting your kid do their own laundry, set clear rules first. Mine let it pile up for a month and now we're dealing with moldy towels.

Giving full control without guidance sets people up to fail. Teens especially need structure to build good habits. A simple checklist can prevent most of these disasters.

Ever tried to follow a checklist only to mess it up anyway? Reminds me of the time I somehow washed a load with a blue pen in the pocket, and everything came out looking like a sad smurf. @troy_ross's pink socks sound almost stylish compared to my tie-dye disaster. But really, does a list stop you from being clueless when you first start out? Sometimes you need to live through the weird results to get why the rules are there in the first place.

My mom's basement laundry room had this one firm rule about sorting colors. At sixteen I tried washing a new red flannel shirt with my white gym socks, which turned everything a sad shade of pink for months. She made me wear the pink socks to school, which was way worse than any moldy towel. Sometimes the lesson isn't in the checklist, it's in living with the weird results.
