Finally got that 1911 slide to lock back smoothly after two weeks of filing

Customer brought it in from Boise with a new aftermarket part that just wouldn't seat right. Anyone have a go-to method for checking frame rail alignment without a jig?

Ever try to eyeball it and just make it worse?

@robinson.holly yeah that's the story of my life with furniture. My dad once tried to eyeball a shelf level and ended up drilling a hole right through the wall into the neighbor's apartment. Had to patch it up with spackle and hope nobody noticed. You'd think after a few decades I'd learn to grab a level instead of trusting my gut, but nope.

Oh man, @robinson.holly, that's my specialty. Last week I tried to fix a wobbly table leg with a random piece of cardboard. Ended up with the whole thing tilted so bad my coffee cup slid right off.
