Spent 45 minutes on a stealth mission in Far Cry 5 and then blew myself up with my own proximity mine

I was sneaking through that cult outpost near John's region, had like 8 guys in a perfect choke line. Then I forgot I placed a mine on a car door I opened, zoned back in from checking my phone, and the explosion sent me flying off a cliff. Has anyone else lost a perfect stealth run to something this stupid?

Place those mines on the ground right where you know enemies will walk, not on vehicles you might jump in later. That mistake taught me to always mark my own traps with a quick mental note or even a paint gun shot so I don't forget where they are. Save yourself the respawn and just stick to floor-level placement unless you're absolutely sure you won't touch that car again.

Oh man, that paint gun tip is genius actually. I've been using the neon weapon skins as a visual marker but that's way more reliable since you can put the paint exactly where the trap is. Gonna start doing that for sure, saves you from that panic moment when you're running back to your vehicle and suddenly remember you put a mine there.
