Spent $40 on a box of Mystery Boosters and only got one decent card

I mean everyone talks about how great those Mystery Booster boxes are for value, but I grabbed one for $40 at the local shop last month and pulled basically nothing but chaff. One $6 card and the rest were bulk rares I'd never run. Maybe it's just me but I feel like the hype is way overblown for what you actually get. Did anyone else get burned on these or did I just get a dud box?

Did you buy the box from a shop that might have weighed it first? Cause I feel like that's a thing some shady places do with mystery products. Ive seen a few people online talk about getting straight garbage while others get legit hits, makes me wonder if there's some selection bias going on with who opens the good ones. What kind of cards did you get in the rare slot, was it just like jank commons pretending to be rare?

Funny you mention the weighing thing, because I bought mine from a booth at a local flea market run by a guy who looked like he hadn't slept in three days. Probably not the best business decision on my part. The rare slot was basically a common card that had "rare" printed on it in sharpie, no joke. Just a beat up energy card with some scribbles. I swear I felt the universe laughing at me when I pulled it out. At that point I was just grateful the packaging didn't spontaneously combust or something. Lesson learned the hard way, I guess.
