Spent 3 hours chasing a glitch in Skyrim that was just me forgetting to pick up the key

Found the door to the Thalmor Embassy, spent forever trying to lockpick it, reloading saves, reading forums. Turns out the key was sitting on a table 20 feet behind me the whole time. Who else has wasted an afternoon on something that obvious?

Man that's the worst kind of glitch because you're so sure you did everything right. Did you actually try lockpicking it first or just assume it was a bug right away?

Nope, tried the lockpick first. Three times. Got the 'too complex' message every time. That's when you know it's a glitch. Game just hates me specifically. Spent twenty minutes reloading before I gave up. Should've just taken the L and moved on.
