That one cashier who pointed out a gnome in the produce section

I was at a grocery store in St. Paul last Tuesday and this cashier, Linda maybe 55 years old, stops scanning my stuff and points to the bananas. There's a tiny ceramic gnome hiding behind a bunch of green ones holding a little sign that says 'eat me before I brown.' She laughed and said she sees at least one gnome a week in weird spots around the store and it makes her shift less boring. Has anyone else had a stranger point out a gnome you totally would have missed?

Pretty sure some employee just leaves those there to entertain themselves. Doubt it's that deep.

Oh totally, I'm with you on that. I honestly feel kind of bad for whoever's doing it, maybe they're just trying to break up the monotony of their shift. But at the same time, it could be a genuine attempt to connect with customers, you know? Like a little piece of themselves in a sterile store environment. Either way, I think it's sweet that someone's putting in that tiny bit of effort, even if it's just for their own amusement. And honestly, if it makes someone smile or wonder, that's not a bad thing at all. So yeah, I'm on board with your take, no need to overthink it.
