That job in July where we had to replace 48 panes of historic stained glass after a freak hailstorm.

The client kept saying 'just make it look like it did before' while we were piecing together a thousand tiny shards of 100-year-old glass with no original plans to work from, so has anyone else had to deal with a full rebuild with zero reference?

A documentary on cathedral restoration showed a team using old photos and light boxes to map missing glass. They basically had to reverse engineer the color and texture from tiny fragments, similar to your puzzle. It looked like a brutal mix of art history and detective work.

Man that sounds insane. Like trying to rebuild a smashed car with just a hubcap and a blurry Polaroid. The patience you'd need is just next level. I saw something like that where they had to guess the exact blue for a saint's robe from a chip the size of a fingernail. It's not just fixing stuff, it's bringing history back from the dead. Total respect for those people.
