Picked the wrong silicone on a storefront in Denver and it was a mess

Had to choose between a standard neutral cure and a faster acid cure for a 40-foot storefront job last Tuesday, and I went with the acid cure thinking it would save time. Big mistake - the smell was brutal in the enclosed vestibule and it started corroding the aluminum mullions where I didn't wipe fast enough. Any of you guys ever had a sealant choice backfire on you like that?

Acid cure on aluminum in an enclosed space sounds like a recipe for trouble. You're lucky it only corroded the mullions where you wiped slow, could have been worse.

The fumes alone probably did some damage even where you didn't touch it. Acid off-gassing in a sealed space is basically a chemical bath for everything nearby.
