My dad told me to never use a hammer on tempered glass, even a small tap

I was installing a shower door in a Reno condo last week and the panel was just a hair too wide. Ngl, I gave it a light tap with the rubber mallet handle, thinking it would be fine. The whole thing just turned into a pile of tiny cubes right there on the bathroom floor. What's the dumbest 'quick fix' you've seen someone try that went totally wrong?

My brother-in-law tried to fix a wobbly ceiling fan by wrapping the mounting bracket with duct tape. It held for about two days before the whole thing came down, blades spinning, right onto his dining room table. Sometimes the proper fix is the only fix, and a shortcut just makes a bigger mess.

Three ceiling fans and one garage door later, I still reach for the duct tape first.

That duct tape story is a perfect example, isn't it? People forget that quick fixes just put off the real problem, and usually make it worse. It's like trying to stop a leak with a band-aid, you just end up with a soggy mess. Why not spend the extra twenty minutes doing it right the first time, instead of wasting hours cleaning up a disaster later?
