Rant: Less runoff from mining areas near me has been a positive change

I've observed that new regulations are reducing sediment pollution in rivers. It's encouraging because cleaner water means better preservation of geological formations downstream.

Notice you're only looking at the water quality. They cut sediment by slashing production, which gutted local jobs. My cousin's equipment operation laid off half its crew last month. The town's tax base nosedived along with those "cleaner" sediment levels. Sure, the river rocks look nicer, but was trading people's livelihoods for that really a win?

Losing jobs is hard, I get that. But polluted rivers cause big problems later. Clean water keeps people safe and helps nature. We should find ways to help workers move to new jobs. Our water and land need protection now. Short term jobs aren't worth long term damage.

Wow, this reminds me of when our local mill shut down for environmental upgrades. The whole town freaked out about lost jobs, but now that river is safe for swimming again. It was a rough few years, but seeing kids play in the water makes it feel worth it.
