Just read that the Appalachian Mountains are older than the Atlantic Ocean

I saw this in a geology textbook at the library. It said the mountains started forming around 480 million years ago, but the Atlantic didn't open until about 150 million years later. Does that fact mess with anyone else's sense of time?

That's wild to think about. The scale of deep time always messes me up a little.

Right? It makes my brain hurt trying to picture it. Like, all of human history is just a tiny blip at the very end of this huge timeline. Puts everything into a weird kind of focus, but also makes you feel super small lol.
