Spent 4 hours hanging a single shelf because I didn't check for studs first

Thought I could just use drywall anchors for a heavy shelf in my garage. After three failed attempts and a big hole in the wall, I finally borrowed a stud finder. Anyone else waste a whole afternoon on something that should have taken 20 minutes?

I hung a whole wall of heavy cabinets in my detached garage using nothing but drywall anchors and they've been solid for three years now. Toggle bolts are way stronger than people give them credit for, and you don't need to hunt for studs or patch holes when you move them. Stud finders are finicky anyway, especially on older plaster walls with metal lath behind them.
