Showerthought: My garage shelf collapse was actually a good thing

Last Tuesday my 4 foot plywood shelf full of paint cans just gave way at 9 PM, splattered oil-based primer all over my workbench. Turned out the brackets were only rated for 50 pounds and I had at least 80 up there. Anyone else realize their storage setup is way weaker than they thought after something crashed?

Mine gave way at 3 AM and woke up the whole house, guess we both learned that lesson the hard way.

3 AM? Dang @gibson.oliver, that's a brutal time to have paint cans crashing. I can't imagine waking up to that sound in the middle of the night, probably scared you half to death. My shelves gave way at 9 PM and I was already annoyed, but 3 AM adds a whole new level of frustration. Hope you didn't have any oil-based primer like I did, that stuff is a nightmare to clean up once it dries.
