Had to tear out half my garage ceiling after one bad screw

I was mounting my pegboard in the dark at 2am, hit a sprinkler line with a 3 inch deck screw, and spent the next 9 hours with a wet vac and drywall saw in 40 degree weather, has anyone else accidentally punctured something dumb while just trying to hang tools?

Actually sounds like the screw did you a favor. That sprinkler line was probably going to burst anyway during some random winter freeze, and then you'd have a flooded garage with ruined tools and a bigger mess. Better to find out now when you can control the cleanup instead of waking up to an ice rink at 6am. Plus now you know exactly where that pipe runs, so future projects are safer. Cheap lesson compared to paying a plumber to reroute it.
