My new smartwatch battery swelled up after just 8 months

I bought a popular fitness tracker last spring, and it worked fine until last week. I went to put it on one morning and noticed the back panel was bulging out. I immediately removed it from the charger and looked up the warranty, which had expired two months prior. Has anyone else had a device fail like this, and what did you do with it?

Did you check if the manufacturer has a known issue with that model? Sometimes they'll do a free replacement even out of warranty for a swollen battery, since it's a safety thing. I'd contact their support directly and send them a picture.

Oh good point... but also check if your credit card has purchase protection. Some cards extend the warranty by a year automatically, so you might get reimbursed even if the company says no.

Yeah, and if they don't help, a bad review with that picture might get their attention.
