My buddy said my new smartwatch review was basically just an ad

We were grabbing coffee in Seattle last month and I was showing off my new fitness tracker. I told him about the heart rate monitor and sleep tracking, really into the details. He just looked at it and said, 'Man, you sound like you're reading the box. Where's the part where it glitched on you?' It stuck with me because he's right, I only talked about the good stuff. Should reviews focus on the perfect features or the real problems you find after using it for a week? What's the better way to do it?

Where's the part where it glitched" is the whole review.

Honestly, your buddy nailed it. We've all been that person reading the spec sheet back like a robot. @miles54 is right about how we polish everything for show. A real review needs the bad with the good, like that time it said you were asleep when you were just watching TV. Otherwise you're just doing free work for the company. Isn't the whole point to save people from the stuff you wish you knew before buying?

That "where's the glitch" line hits home. I see this everywhere, from people showing off a new car to posting a perfect restaurant meal. We're all so used to sharing the polished version that the real, messy experience gets left out. A review without the problems feels like just another ad.
