Talked to my neighbor's grandma about her fridge organizing system and it totally blew my mind

She told me she keeps all her leftovers in glass jars by what they are, not by meal, and now I'm wondering why I never thought to just toss random odds and ends together like that... has anyone else tried grouping ingredients by type instead of keeping them as separate leftover meals?

Not sure I'd want to do that... mixing old Chinese takeout with leftover pasta sauce sounds like a gamble I'm not willing to take. Keeping things separate helps me remember what's actually in there before I toss it.

laura211 one time i mixed leftover honey garlic sauce from the chicken balls into my spaghetti and it was actually decent, not gonna lie. but yeah i get the fear, i once found a tupperware in the back of the fridge that had chow mein noodles swimming in what looked like old marinara and i couldn't tell if it was from last week or last month. played it safe and tossed it because my nose wasn't about to take that gamble either.
