My fridge door hinge gave out and dumped a jar of pickles everywhere

It happened yesterday afternoon, just as I was putting away groceries. The bottom hinge snapped clean off, the door swung down, and a full jar of dill spears shattered on the kitchen floor. Anyone know a good way to get that vinegar smell out of grout?

Tell me why appliances always break at the worst possible time.

Blame our own brains for noticing the pattern more when it hurts. We forget the ten times the dryer hummed along on a random Tuesday, but the one time it dies right before a big job interview gets burned into memory. It's like a weird survival instinct that makes bad timing feel personal, even though it's just dumb luck and wear and tear.

Ever notice how it's never just the dryer? Like @simonl86's example, my car battery died the morning I had to drive my mom to the airport. It was fine for months before that. The universe just loves to stack problems. My internet went out right as I was about to submit a final project in college. It feels like a sick joke, but it's probably just that we only really freak out when the timing is awful. Those quiet Tuesday afternoons when everything works just don't stick in your head.
