Shoutout to my friend who convinced me to skip the deluxe edition of 'Cosmic Encounter' after I wasted $40 on extra pieces we never even opened.

We've played it six times now and that whole 'alliance' expansion pack is still sealed in the box, so what's a game you guys bought extra stuff for and then totally ignored?

Actually I dodged that bullet with the Catan expansions. Bought Cities and Knights on a whim because everyone online said it makes the game way better. Played it once, spent half the time trying to explain the new rules, and now the box just sits on my shelf collecting dust. My group barely even finishes a normal game of Catan without someone getting mad about the robber, so adding more complexity was a mistake. I figured if the base game already has some drama, why would adding more stuff fix that. Now I just stick to the base version and it works fine for us.

Actually, Cosmic Encounter is one of those games where the alliance stuff is part of the base box. The expansions are usually new alien powers and extra pieces like that. I bought the "Incursion" expansion for it and barely touched the new reward deck.
