Question about the coffee shop on 5th and Maple

Was working there yesterday, trying to finish a proposal. The guy next to me was on a video call with a client, full volume, explaining why his 'creative process' required a 50% deposit upfront. He was wearing a bathrobe. Over a suit. In public. It was a bold choice. What's the weirdest client negotiation you've ever overheard?

Heard a guy in Chicago offer to pay his web designer in vintage vinyl records.

Wild. Reminds me of this local band that tried to pay their bar tab with homemade pickles. The owner actually took the deal, said they were surprisingly good. Makes you wonder what weird stuff is actually worth something to the right person. That web designer must have a serious record collection going by now.

That bit about the vintage vinyl records reminded me of a guy I once overheard at a diner near Detroit trying to pay a graphic designer with a lifetime supply of his family's homemade hot sauce. The designer actually took him up on it, said the sauce was great on eggs. I guess if you're good enough at making something, it can turn into a weird kind of currency. Your mileage may vary on hot sauce versus vinyl, but it's wild what people think is a fair trade.
