We ran the same batch of 356 alloy for six months, then switched to a new supplier's ingots. The porosity in our castings went from almost zero to a constant 3% scrap rate in two weeks.

Did they change the mold release agent too?

Man, that sounds like a real headache. Reminds me of when my bar switched to a cheap cola brand and all the rum and cokes started tasting flat. Sometimes the new supplier just doesn't have the same stuff in the mix, you know? You gotta wonder if their alloy has a different gas content or maybe some trace element causing trouble. Definitely seems like the new ingots are the only thing that changed. Hope you can get the old batch back or make them fix it!

Actually, I'd check the mold release first since that changed too!
