Watched a guy in Tacoma pour a mold without a proper vent and it blew back on him.

He was rushing a small bronze job and got a face full of steam and hot sand. It was just a small burn, but it made me stop and check my own vent lines every single time now. How do you guys make sure your vents are clear on a busy day?

Yeah, I got lazy once and paid for it. Now I keep a straightened coat hanger right by my station. Before every pour, I poke it down each vent to feel for any blockage. Takes ten seconds and it's saved me more than once when the sand was a bit too damp.

Ever notice how the smallest, dumbest shortcuts always end up causing the biggest mess? Like skipping the quick check on your bike chain and then it falls off miles from home. That ten second poke with the hanger is the exact kind of tiny habit that stops a huge headache later.
