TIL a trick for keeping my flask from rolling off the bench
I kept having my steel flask slide around on the workbench, especially when I was setting up a pour. It was a small thing but it drove me nuts, and I nearly knocked it over a couple times. Last month, I tried something simple. I took a short piece of old conveyor belt, maybe 6 inches long, and cut a shallow notch in the middle of it. I just set the flask in that notch now. The rubber holds it solid, no sliding at all. It's free, it takes two seconds to make, and it works way better than the wooden block I was using before. Has anyone else found a cheap fix for keeping flasks steady?

Silicone trivets are a game changer. My old cork one left a weird ring on the table last week. Now I can just toss this thing in the sink. It even doubles as a weird, floppy hot pad in a pinch.

and honestly that tracks with something I've noticed lately where everything in the kitchen is slowly becoming either silicone or stainless steel. You got silicone spatulas, silicone muffin pans, silicone lids for bowls. My old rubber spatula melted against the pan once and I had to scrape it off with a knife. Now I just buy the silicone stuff without thinking twice because it never warps or gets that sticky residue. Same with my cutting boards. I used to have wood ones that smelled like garlic forever no matter how much I scrubbed them. Now I use plastic boards for meat and a big silicone mat for rolling dough. I feel like kitchens are just moving toward things you can throw in the dishwasher without guilt. Are you finding other silicone stuff creeping into your cabinets too?
