PSA: A simple core box repair turned into a 6-hour nightmare yesterday.
The wooden core box for our standard 4-inch flange cracked along a glue joint. I figured I'd just clean it, re-glue, and clamp it. The glue didn't hold because of old resin contamination I missed. I had to carve out the whole seam, which took forever with hand tools. Has anyone found a better fix for salvaging old core boxes, or is it always faster to just build a new one?

Yeah, my buddy had that "clean it and re-glue" plan fail too.

Tell me about it, I tried that fix on a pair of boots last year. The glue held for about a week before it totally gave out. Learned my lesson the hard way.
