Hot take: People are way too scared of the old green sand mix

I keep seeing guys at our shop in Toledo treat it like it's radioactive if it's been sitting for more than a day. We ran a test batch that sat for 72 hours, just gave it a proper mulling and a 2% moisture adjustment, and the castings came out fine. It's not the sand, it's the prep. Anyone else have a boss who insists on dumping perfectly good material?

Your boss dumps a whole bin overnight?

My old foreman in Dayton would dump a whole bin if it sat overnight... until we did a similar 48-hour test. Changed how I see the whole thing now.

Tell them it's not a museum piece, it's a material. Proper mulling and moisture control fix most problems, not a dumpster. Some shops just have a throwaway culture instead of a process.
