Vent: That $30 ghost hunting app was a total scam for my found footage shoot
I dropped $30 on a "spirit box" app for my last short film, thinking it'd save me from field recording at 3am in an actual abandoned asylum near Gary, Indiana. The app glitched out every 10 minutes and the audio was garbage - totally unusable. But then I see other filmmakers swearing by these things for building tension. Anyone else blow money on gear that looked legit but totally failed when you needed it?

Bought a $200 IR light that turned everything green. Night vision looked like a moldy basement.

Honestly, "moldy basement" sounds a bit dramatic. Is it really that bad or are you just expecting it to look like daylight?
