Just realized Blair Witch Project came out 25 years ago this summer

I was reading an article on Den of Geek about its box office run and it said the movie cost $60,000 to make but grossed nearly $250 million worldwide. Does anyone remember seeing it in theaters back when people thought it was real?

Yeah I caught that 25 years thing and honestly I don't get why everyone's so worked up about it. I mean yeah the marketing was clever and it made a ton of money but the movie itself is just shaky cameras and people yelling in the woods for 80 minutes. It's a fun piece of movie history but not exactly some deep cultural event.

Man yeah you nailed it. The whole thing is a perfect example of a movie that matters more for how it got made and sold than for anything actually in it. It's like the cultural impact is mostly people talking about the cultural impact.
