Just found out most 'found footage' tapes on YouTube are just low-budget indie shorts from 2008
I was digging through some old horror forums last night and stumbled across a post that linked to a whole bunch of those creepy 'lost tapes' that went viral back in the day. Turns out, like 70% of them were actually student films from a film school in Ohio, not some random guy's forgotten horror collection. Blew my mind because I remember staying up late watching those and being genuinely freaked out. Has anyone else ever dug into the origins of those old YouTube uploads?

Oh man, I did a deep dive on this a few years back when I was bored at 2 AM. Found out one of my all-time favorite creepy tapes was literally a project some kid made for a creative writing class, he posted it on a forum asking for feedback and someone just reuploaded it as "found footage." Honestly I was kinda bummed but also impressed that a college kid could make something that freaky with no budget.
