Serious question, does anyone actually make their great-grandma's fruitcake anymore?

I found my great-grandma's recipe box and counted 17 different fruitcake recipes from her and her friends, all from the 1940s. I tried one last Christmas and it took me 3 days just to soak the fruit, and honestly, it was way too heavy and boozy for my family. Everyone says they miss these old treats, but I think we just like the idea more than the actual cake. Has anyone had a forgotten family recipe that just didn't hold up to modern taste?

Honestly, did any of our ancestors actually have taste buds?

Maybe try cutting the booze soak time in half next time? @the_robert might be onto something with the taste buds thing, idk. Those old recipes can be a bit much.
