Rant: My attempt at a lost soda bread recipe left my kitchen sticky

I dug out my great-aunt's handwritten soda bread recipe from a box of old papers. Instead of buttermilk, I used a trendy plant-based milk, and the dough turned into a gluey mess that stuck to every surface. What old family recipes have you tried to update with weird results?

Read about blue algae in a pie crust turning it a scary shade of blue.

My friend Karen tried to make her grandma's lemon meringue pie with a "healthier" crust using blue algae powder. She sent me a picture of the whole thing, and it looked like a Smurf exploded in her pie dish. The filling was normal yellow, but that crust was a scary, bright blue. She said it tasted like seaweed and regret.

Man, I was all for trying new health foods in classic dishes. Betty213's story about Karen's pie totally changed my mind. That bright blue crust and seaweed flavor sound awful. It shows that messing with grandma's recipes can backfire big time. Now I see some things are best left alone. What do you guys think about food trends like this?
